Elijah at Passover

Remember how Jeroboam started his Golden Calf religion to keep people from visiting Jerusalem. (1 Kings 12:25ff)

I’m wondering if families who worshipped the Lord might have ignored Jeroboam’s new religion and gone to Jerusalem anyway for Passover, Shavuot or Sukkot?

Sharon Gunneson Magoon answered, see 2 Chronicles 11:14. “…Levites even abandoned their pasturelands and property and came to Judah and Jerusalem.”

Thank you, Sharon! Exactly what I needed to know.

Since Elijah’s family were Levites and struggled against Moloch and Asherah, they might have travelled to Jerusalem for the holidays. And I feel a little confident about having put these words in the mouth of Hashabiah, the Levite in Zarephath. “…we still go home for the three holidays.”
